Six of the Best Used Sedans You Should Consider
Trying to find the right car, especially when you first start your vehicle search, can feel pretty intimidating. You have so many options to choose from when looking at what’s out there—even if you limit yourself to used models—that trying to sort through them all can seem like an impossible task. But that is why we are here to help as your used Honda dealer and provide you with some suggestions to point you in the right direction.
Ultimately, no one but you can know what you need in a vehicle, but we can answer any questions you have and give you some tips on how to get started. It comes down to recognizing what you’re looking for in a vehicle and then considering what’s out there to find the features you need. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of our favorite options when it comes to used cars and see what will work best for you.
Used Sedan #1 – The Honda Civic
When it comes to great cars, few models that you can still get have been around for as long as the Honda Civic. First produced in the 1970s, the Civic was Honda’s first big breakthrough car that proved they could make more than the impressive motorcycles they had been producing for decades prior to that point. With such a long period of production, the Civic is one of the best-selling cars in the world, and more than 27 million models have been sold since it first made its way onto the market.
A car doesn’t stick around that long unless it has something special to offer, and year after year, the Civic has made a name for itself with nimble performance, a gorgeous design, and great features inside and out. With used models, look for a Civic from 2012-2015 for the ninth generation, 2016-2021 for the 10th generation, or from 2022 and later to get a current 11th-gen model.
Used Sedan #2 – The Nissan Versa
Since this is a subcompact car, it’s smaller than the other options we’re looking at today, but we’re still going to include this one because it’s a popular model with a lot to offer. While the Versa first launched here in the US for the 2007 model year, it’s a car that has its roots going back much further than that of other Nissan models. You can find the Nissan Versa as either a standard sedan or a hatchback, which gives you better access to rear cargo space, so keep that in mind while looking at different used models.
Stylish and fun to drive, the Versa is a great pick, and it has typically been sold at a very low MSRP, so you can find them at great prices when looking at pre-owned ones. Speaking of which, note that the second generation of the Versa went from 2012-2019, while the current third generation launched in 2020 and recently received an update and facelift for the 2023 model year.
Used Sedan #3 – The Toyota Corolla
Right up there with the Honda Civic, the Corolla first began production in the mid-1960s and quickly became one of Toyota’s most important models. Less than a decade after it was introduced, the Toyota Corolla became the best-selling car in the world in 1974 and has remained incredibly popular ever since. More than 50 million Corolla models have been sold worldwide at this point, which means you can find many of these compact cars when you look at the used market.
Speaking of which, you don’t need to go all the way back to the 1960s or 1970s with this one—look for a 2014-2019 model for an 11th-generation Corolla or one from 2020 and later to get the current 12th generation. In recent years, hybrid engines have been a popular option on the Corolla, so keep that in mind as you explore used models.
Used Sedan #4 – The Volkswagen Jetta
Rounding out the smaller options we’re looking at today, the Volkswagen Jetta is another one that’s part of a prestigious legacy going back many decades. First produced at the end of the 1970s, the Jetta is a stylish compact car that’s proven quite popular over the years. More than 18 million Jetta models have been sold worldwide, with more than 3 million sold here in the US.
The modern Jetta includes a wide range of impressive features and options including Volkswagen’s latest technology systems and advanced safety tech designed to help keep you safer on the road. For a sixth-generation Jetta, look for a 2011-2018 model, including a facelift for 2015, while a 2019 or later model will get you the current seventh generation.
Used Sedan #5 – The Honda Accord
While the smaller Civic proved Honda could make successful cars along with their legendary motorcycles, the Accord established that they weren’t a one-hit wonder. They wanted to offer something a bit larger, making a car that was perfect for families, and the first Honda Accord started production in the mid-1970s. Since then, it has remained a popular option that began its run as a compact model a bit bigger than the Civic and has grown since then, becoming a midsize sedan at the end of the 1980s.
Well over 18 million Accord models have sold since its introduction, and it has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list more than three dozen times. As you look at used models, watch for a 2018-2022 Accord for the 10th generation or a 2023 or later model to get the current 11th generation.
Used Sedan #6 – The Toyota Camry
Although its legacy doesn’t go back as far as the Corolla (or even the Honda Accord), the Toyota Camry is still a modern legend in the auto industry. First released in the early 1980s, the Camry started as a compact model and remained that way for a decade, growing into a midsize sedan in the US in the early 1990s. Millions of Camry models have sold over the years, and it has frequently been the best-selling car in the US for the last 25 years (and counting).
That means you can find a lot of these when you are looking at pre-owned sedans, making it a terrific option. In recent years, much like with the Corolla, hybrid engines have been available, so keep that in mind when looking at what’s available. A model from 2012-2017 will be part of the seventh generation, while 2018-2024 will get you an eighth-generation Camry (a ninth generation is launching with the 2025 model year).
Find the Used Car You’ve Been Looking For
As you can see, even if you are exclusively looking for a used sedan, you still have plenty of different models to consider. Once you add in factors like various generations, model years, and trim levels (that’s a whole other layer of options), then you can see why people quickly become overwhelmed while shopping for a used vehicle. That is why we work so hard to take all the frustration and hassle out of the car-buying experience and provide you with a better way to get your next vehicle.
With one of our friendly and helpful salespeople by your side, it is easier to explore what’s available, look at the features of different models, and get the perfect used car with everything you need.
