Let’s start at the obvious place with a look under the hood. The gas-only 2026 Honda CR-V uses a turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder engine, which produces 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque. It gets an EPA-estimated 28 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway in front-wheel drive (FWD), making it a great cruising vehicle for Interstate 81.[a]

The Honda CR-V Hybrid combines a naturally aspirated 2.0L four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a small battery; together, they boost output to 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy substantially improves, especially in the heart of Morristown, with an EPA-estimated 43 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway in FWD, making it ideal for those who put a lot of miles on their vehicles.[b]

Both models’ seats have the same shoulder and hip widths, as well as the same total cargo capacity of 76.5 cu.ft.

However, the hybrid models have almost two inches less of front headroom (40 inches vs 38.2 inches). Very tall drivers and passengers could find themselves in a situation where their legs are comfortable but their heads bump.

Most of the fundamental interior amenities are also shared, with every gas 2026 CR-V above the base LX trim receiving conveniences such as dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The high-end creature comforts, though, are much more likely to appear in the hybrid lineup.

For example, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob are found on all CR-V Hybrid trim levels; the only gas CR-V you’ll find them on is the top-tier EX-L. An auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, a power-adjustable passenger’s seat, and driver’s seat memory settings are also much more prevalent on the CR-V Hybrid. It’s also the only model that offers a heated steering wheel.

The same is true of the exterior. All models have LED lighting and remote entry, and most trims include a power moonroof and heated side mirrors. But every 2026 CR-V Hybrid comes with roof rails for loading up your vacation gear, as well as dual chrome exhaust tips to show off as you drive. A programmable power tailgate is standard on all hybrid trims except the Sport, whereas the EX-L is the only gas trim to offer it.

Connectivity & Safety Tech

As part of the 2026 refresh, many more infotainment features are now included across the board, meaning tech enthusiasts are always making a good choice regardless of powertrain. These shared features include a nine-inch color infotainment touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, front USB-C fast-charging ports, and a wireless phone charging pad. Rear USB-C charging ports are available on most trim levels, so rear-seat passengers can rejuvenate their phones, too.

Still, the hybrid models have some distinct upgrades. Notably, HondaLink subscription services and a Wi-Fi hotspot are available only on 2026 CR-V Hybrids. You’re also more likely to find tech goodies like a 10.2-inch digital instrument display and an eight-speaker audio system. Finally, top-of-the-line features like Google built-in, HD Radio, and a Bose 12-speaker system are only offered on the CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring.

One area where the powertrain has no impact is safety, as Honda believes everyone should be protected at the wheel. There are 11 standard driver assistance features in the Honda Sensing suite, from automatic emergency braking to adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition. Some extra features are available, like blind-spot monitoring and low-speed braking control, for both the gas-powered and hybrid 2026 CR-V.
